- 5 / 5By Chris DietrichThis place is a bit off the beaten track but well worth a visit. We stayed in one of the pre-Civil War era houses moved here and restored by the owners, Jackie and Ben Hobbs. Our cabin was one of the more rustic, pet-friendly ones with unfinished wood floors, but very comfortable with a full kitchen and modern appliances. They also have some fancier, non-pet-friendly cabins that have nicer floor coverings and furniture. Ben is an award-winning woodworker with a wood shop on the premises and has made some beautiful reproductions of antique furniture. Both Ben and Jackie are very friendly and hospitable with great knowledge of the area and its history. They even offered to let us borrow their car while ours was in the shop having a wheel bearing replaced. If you're looking for a quiet, comfortable, reasonably priced, out of the way place to stay that's within an easy drive of Merchants Mill Pond and Dismal Swamp State Parks as well as Elizabeth City and Edenton, this is it.June 27, 2016
